A Guide to Choosing the Right Duvet

Everyone’s sleeping requirements are different. The ideal scenario is to identify the preferred type of duvet and the level of warmth required to suit the sleeper’s individual needs. To assist with this, Fairydown has compiled a list of questions to guide the decision-making process:

What season is it for?
Many people find that they require more than one duvet to ensure they remain comfortable with the changing seasons, one for the colder months and one for the warmer. Fairydown has an extensive range of duvets to cover the warmth requirements of every season and for ultimate flexibility, has developed the All Seasons concept featuring two different duvet weights to be used separately or domed together.

What are you currently using?
The bedding you currently use can give a good indication of what type of duvet you prefer and how much warmth you require.

What ‘type’ of sleeper are you?
A comfortable sleeping temperature throughout the night is essential to a good night’s sleep.

What is your sleeping environment like?
The warmth of your sleeping environment will directly influence the amount of warmth required from your bedding. Newer houses, tend to be well insulated and therefore you may only need a light or medium warmth duvet to sleep under. However, if you live in an older style ‘character’ house, which may have more draughts and can be harder to keep warm, you may find that you require more warmth from your bedding. The use of an underlay will build heat from the bottom layer up.

How much weight do you prefer?
The weight of a duvet is an important consideration in determining how comfortable it will be to sleep under. Feather and down or cotton filled duvets are ideally suited to people who prefer a lighter weight on top. Other people feel more comfortable sleeping under a slightly heavier weight, which would suggest the preference for a wool duvet.

What look would you like to create?
The appearance of the duvet on the bed may also be an important factor in your decision. Feather and down duvets are ideal to create a plump and soft look on the bed. Alternatively, wool or cotton filled duvets are traditionally smoother in appearance and will help create a neat tailored finish.

blissfil		The ‘Blissfil’ category is the largest category and represents a better or mid range offering under the Fairydown brand. All ‘Blissfil’ product features a Fairydown paste print cotton casing and high quality fill. Packaging under the Blissfil category is grey and blue to allow for easy identification.
everynite		The ‘Everynite’ category is our entry level product offer under the Fairydown brand and represents great value for money buying. All fill types are represented in this category. All Everynite products are classified with white cotton casings and are easily identifiable in clear and green packaging.
